about

South for Winter produced this concept album alongside multi-GRAMMY award-winning producer Matt Leigh in one of Nashville's most historic studios, Sound Emporium Studios. The trio successfully raised over $21,000 (>140% of their crowdfunding goal) to independently release Of Sea and Sky before trickling out six album singles over the course of the album's release. The complete album is out in both digital and physical formats on May 16, 2024.

Of Sea and Sky is split conceptually into “Side A/Sky Side” and “Side B/Sea Side" - two digital halves, with one complete physical release. As inferred by the titles, "Sky Side" features celestial themes, ethereal harmonies, and heavenly string arrangements, and it is filled with dreamy songs such as "Something in the Stars", "Underneath the Blood Moon", and "Wintersleep (Southern Lights)". "Sea Side" crashes in with bluesy guitar licks, layered drums, and stacked vocals, with tunes like "Styx and Bones" and "Undertow" - and even a sea shanty named "Redwater". Parts one, two, and three of an instrumental called "Tears of an Albatross" (so named after a Maori poem) serve as the beginning, end, and bridge to cross from the "Sky Side" to "Sea Side" on the album.
